Where are these delicious beads from?

These were among a group of beads sold by ebay seller teddp, who I'm sure a number of people here follow. Thoughts on where these are from? I'm in awe of the granulation on these lovely beads.

  • Yes they are! *mops keyboard*

  • I would say Bali. I somewhere have a similar on (round shape) that I bought as a Bali bead. But these are among the most refined ones I have seen.

  • I agree with Betty, this is exceptionally beautiful Bali work which is probably vintage.  I looked up the seller and saw the price these went for and about fainted!

  • These were cheap in the day- made for export, not tribal use.  The workmanship like this from Bali is no longer found.  We have a lot of newer vintage beads from Bali (but still great workmanship) on eBay right now at a far more reasonable price than these.  I don't understand how some sellers price their items.....

  • So, how do we find each others' shop info? I haven't found any links/urls on the individual pages.

  • Interesting. I too originally thought these were very refined vintage beads, but thought I must learn more when I saw the price they went for. They were part of a group of beads that included 13 or so old Sri Lankan beads and a couple of other silver beads in the auction, which may explain the price to an extent.

Hillary, do you have information on when such beads stopped being produced?

  • I would say that these are around 1980's, but don't quote me.  Like jewelry for export produced in Afghanistan, the quality went way down quite rapidly, over a 30 year period.  There are always exceptions.

I hate to advertise, but we are "alqator" on eBay, also Ethnic Embellishments is the store name.

  • Thank you EE. Etiquette is a hairy thing, but I think in this case folks would want to know where to locate items-though I suppose we have the option of privately messaging someone - is that how EJ prefers? Just surprised to not be able to find links/urls on the individuals' pages and was wondering if I just hadn't found them yet :/
