Thank you for your admiration and the additional info's about who possibly also may wear them. I do not know much about that area, as it was for bidden terrain in my time I got most of my collection from Addis Ababa and Harrar. When it was possible, you needed a 4 wheel drive ,a costly car, So you can imagine that now so many questions do come up and would know what to ask and look for for reseach materials. Perhaps you maybe more in a position to follow this up. A task dear Betty. Gr. Ingrid.
The rounded portion is VERY similar to a central pendant found in some Omani necklaces.

jewelry has a lot of connections with Oman. and through this RashAida nomadic people it also reaches the other ethnic group settlements of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Gr. Ingrid.
Ingrid this is absolutely wonderful, and from the looks of it, huge! It is in such great condition too. I have never seen one as complex as this lovely pectoral.

Dear Ingrid, I love this one. Your collection is amazing. It is so extensive and it must cover all aspects of Ethiopian jewellery ... which you gradually reveal. I wonder how long it took to collect? A labour of love.
Thank you Thelma for your appreciation. It was great fun to collect, far from representing all of Ethiopia, because my interest went mostly to silver items and religious artifacts. And of course, the dealers knew where to find you because they knew you were one with the collector's decease and couldn't let it pass by if it caught your your fancy. You one way or another managed the financial side even if you sometimes had to get it on credit. You let you because they were sure you stood for it.
Than also I would run home to check if it was good silver, always a question in Ethiopia. Depending from which area it was they worked wit different silver content. It was a lovely 35 years of collecting right at the source. Many nice cups of Ethiopian arabic coffee or rather sweet spiced tea. Loved it.
There I go memorizing . A period which nobody can take away from a collector. Thank you again Thelma for bringing back these years to me. GR. Ingrid.
Ingrid, I love your stories about your active collecting days. You built a wonderful treasure trove of beauty and cultural significance, and the best part is the pieces were saved from melting and preserved for the future, and so is the knowledge you gathered, through your generosity of sharing what you know.
