  I was told this was a tooth amulet for protecting a baby.  From India. It didn't come on this chain nor with the tubes on either side.  Looking for confirmation as to whether the info. I have is correct and/or further information.  Thank you.

  You should look at Thelma's photos of a similar piece on a Yemeni necklace.  It is a lovely piece you have!

  Hello Anjali. Oh dear, I'm afraid I took down my Yemeni photos some time ago and the photo Hillary mentioned was one of them. I will make another photo so that you can compare. I think your lovely necklace may be a wedding necklace. It has little fertility symbols on it. If it is such a wedding necklace, it is quite rare.

  I just wanted to make the connection with the photo of a wedding necklace I've just put up. I think yours is remarkably similar... with the bone amulet set in silver, the fertility symbols and the noisy bells:)). It has the same symbolic functions ... protection from the evil eye and promotion of fertility.

  Dear Anjali, I agree with Hillary and Betty that this is Yemeni and a similar small version is shown on p. 185 of Marjorie Ransom's book.  She attributes it to Wadi Daw'an and says the name is nab daba'.  Yemenis did put amulets on children so with the smaller size it could have been for a child or a bride.  It is probably a piece of bone.  Congrats, it's lovely and unusual to find.

  Here are two close up's of the bone or could it be a tooth?  On the right it looks like a layer has worn away and on the left, it looks like either it hasn't or a piece of newer tooth (or bone?) is present or has been added.  (Too bad I'm not a dentist :>)  )

     The little balls at the bottom don't seem to have clappers or anything inside to make them jingle.

  Dear Peter, thank you so much.  I'm so glad I posted it in ethnic jewels and really appreciate all I've learned from the comments here. I bought it to sell some years ago because I thought it was so interesting and I put it on this old Mexican chain. Now that I know more about it, I have no idea what sort of price to put on an usual item like this.  Any suggestions for how I might determine this? It's 58 mm's across. I've looked for similar items on the net, but until Thelma showed her fabulous piece, I'd never seen anything like it.
