A silver filigree woman's belt. From a Süryani (Christian Assyrian) workshop in Midyat (60 km east of Mardin). Recent work (2010s), but the design and the techniques used go back to the late 19th century. Due to difficult living conditions, and to a constant emigration of the Christian Assyrians to their Diaspora, the present generation of Süryani silversmiths may well be the last...
