Peul Fulani ?

I purchased a couple of these some time ago in Ghana from a trader who picked them up in Mali. I was told this was Peul Fulani.Does anyone know if this is a new style of stringing or an old design? Thanks!

  • Thanks Sarah. Which ones are the Ethiopian elements please?

  • To me, the ovoid 'amber' beads and the skunk beads ( dotty) are Ethiopian in flavour!

The red venetian elbow 'macaroni' beads are typical of Fulani beadwork.

Do the small red seed beads have white cores?

  • the little stripey one is Mali style !!!!

  • The clasp again is new, although African made....a restring for sure, but possibly an african restring

the clue of date is likely to be in the date and origin of the seed beads and the string.

  • is the string white synthetic?

if so I would say it was restrung in Ghana...

if the seed beads are of the correct age I would Hazzard a restring in original form.........

woyuld need to see it in person or close up pics to say more

is it yours, bring it to Morocco.?

  • Great information, thanks Sarah! Yes, the red ones are whitehearts. The trader I bought these from has had a couple of these now and then, and I wondered if these were a typical Fulani design or if these were strung by enterprising traders in Mali...

  • Will bring it in September, thanks!

  • redwhitehearts would lead me to the conclusion that this piece is in original layout with replaced threads.

and this configuration is a style wich could be attributed as Fulani.
