  whatever it is, it is terrific! These round elements on the beads I have seen on Ethiopian hairpins... or Yemeni jewellery, which has similar or identical elements.

  It is not quite the same, I was mistaken........here is the Picture I was thinking of. So perhaps it is rather Ottoman ............. I cannot help there.

  I do not think them to be Ethiopian eventhough the work is similar.I do have old ones,vintage and new but they are all round of shape as to these  slightly oval. Beautiful lock, never seen one like that.

  I love these beads!  The granulation on them is wonderful, and these strike me as high quality.  Although I do not know where they are from, the twisted figure 8 chain link is something very typical of Tunisian jewelry (however I do not think this piece is Tunisian.)  Could this be from somewhere in N. Africa???  Perhaps Algeria????  I could almost picture this worn as a "jugulaire" worn by an Ouled Nail.

  I agree with edith about the chaine. Typical tunisia, also to find in east and south algeria( chawi,kabyl.tuat,saoura and hoggar areas ) they are alwaxs 2 rouds soldered togrether.handmade
  This looks made of brass and was silvered. I have an idea but i m not sure. The ottoman influence as hillary mentioned is plausible.

  A wonderful necklace ! It reminds me of the dangles which one often used in Uzbek jewelry.

  I have similar beads (without the twist), also set out on a chain and interspersed with bakelite barrel beads, which I`ve shown in my photos. I had thought they might be Yemeni but Hillary steered me in the direction of Ottoman. The style of mine does certainly indicate a connection. But this is overall much more superior.

  So lovely - I`m very envious!
