I`m sure there`s a name for the little handstruck silver coins here but I just can`t think of it.The ones on the pendant are cherifien.I don`t know which area of the Draa this is from exactly.

  • Wow! This one is gorgeous! I love the feeling of abundance with all that coral and amber. Is this a new find?

  • Yes, it is T., my one and only Draa Valley necklace. From an online shp and I`ve been watching it for a couple of years maybe. Then, when I saw the results of the Paris auction, I thought I better go for it quickly since there had been no rise in price over that time to take account of the rapid increase in coral and amber prices.

    Thanls for your kind words.

  • The style of the bunches of Coral and the Amber is fairly typical of hte Draa region, The central silver looks like a Faqrun from the centre of a fibulae chain set from the north ( Rif) any chance of more pics of the central piece please? S x

  • S, there are these:2506009768?profile=RESIZE_1024x10242506010289?profile=RESIZE_1024x10242506011627?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024I`m pleased to see a date of 1006 = 1597 AD on one of the little coins. Unless it`s fake. Or I`m misinterpreting. Plus 2x 1299=1881AD.

Would hte Draa be north of Agdez?

I would rather like a faqrun......

  • Having checked further, I`m sure the central pendant is a faqrun and probably from the Rif valley. So the neclace is a bit of a chimera.

  • A kind friend who lives in Morocco ( Julie of "oil-et-rugs") has helped me out with the name of the little silver coins. They are called hassani.

  • Coincidentally, while trying to research Iranian glass, I have just found out that the bigger coins are hassani. So perhaps the smaller coins are not.

    Probably everybody already knew that!

  • Frankie, i live in Draa but i never saw such.

  • You mean the coins or the whole necklace, F?

  • The whole necklace; people wear things that resemble your necklace but not that type. I
