Close-up of a traditional urban bride. Late-Ottoman, from Bursa. Ca. 1900. The metal ornament fixed on top of the felt hat is called ‘tepelik’. It is a piece of jewelry, generally made of silver, gilded silver or even gold. Less valuable specimen were made of ‘alpaka’ (nickel silver), a silvery-coloured alloy of 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc.On the breast: a small fastener-like ornament, consisting of two small silver(y) plaques (with dangles, and one hook each on the backside) connected with each other by three short chains.
