    Dear Jean-Marie; This is a gorgeous belt and in such a great condition! One of the best I have seen so far! Many elements are similar to the Iraqi Kurdish belts, which I have posted some time ago. With kind regards. Peter

    Dear Peter.  Thanks for your comment.  Yes, indeed, the similarity with Iraqi Kurdish jewelry is obvious, and not surprising, since the Urfa and Mardin provinces (in Turkey) lie on the northeastern Syrian border, not so far from Iraqi Kurdistan; the Kurdish culture is one of the two (historically) predominant popular cultures of the Urfa-Mardin region (the other being the Syrian Arabic culture).
