Whale and flower

Lovely high-grade silver bracelet with cast elements and filigree work. I am a bit at loss with regards to its origin. Any ideas?

  • Dear Betty; This bracelet is wonderful. I believe it is Yemeni. I love the way the top and bottom parts combine with the filigree works - gorgeous! Your bracelet reminds me of a pair of high grade silver bracelets from Yemen, which is in my collection. They do not feature filigree but the top and bottom parts are similar. Below is a photo. With kind regards. Peter

  • Beautiful Betty, those elegant leave design, look like what they make in Morocco (I bought one from ebay) just talking about the leave pattern, another I bought with  very elegant leave design I think it is Indonesian. The flower pattern with the garnet, is in my opinion more arabian.  It looks as if two cultures came together.  How about placing it in Oman?  This bracelet will be so elegant on anybody's wrist.

    Gr. Ingrid.

  • I agree with Peter and think it is likely Yemeni.  The top and bottom bands look cast, like Peter's bracelets below, and then the middle part appears to be worked in filigree.  It is lovely, wherever it is from.  Congratulations!

  • Beautiful bracelet . I like the filigree and the granulations pattern. They make the piece very elegant.

  • Beautiful, Betty. Those leaf shapes do look like the 'whales' on Yemeni belts.... but not sure of precise origin.

  • Thank you ALL for your comments (and for your picture, Peter)! Yes, my first thought was also Yemen, but I was confused by the combination of cast and filigree parts. You can find both in Yemen bracelets, but I have never seen these two techniques combined, at least not in this way.

Anyway, it is a lovely piece and very nice to wear too...
