  • I can see that you like  interesting belts and you certainly are successful in getting most beautiful pieces. this is specifically interesting with a lot of fine details. Congratulations Peter

  • Very beautiful and unusual.  The combination of refined filigree (that look more northern Yemen) with the large width and bold clasps (that look more southern Yemen) is intriguing.  Also I have never seen a vertical arrangement of "whale and flower" before.  Peter have you seen more like this, or is this belt the only one?

  • A highly attractive belt, Peter!

Could it be that the wonderful filigree was perhaps added later (and in a very refined way)? There also seems to be a second set of eyes to close the belt...

  • Dear All; Many thanks for your messages. I am just driving back to the Dead Sea, having attended the inauguration and first exhibition "Golden Threads of Bethlehem" by Mrs Widad Kawar at her Tiraz Center in Amman - it was fabulous!
This belt is almost identical with the one displayed by Mrs Marjorie Ransom in the Lecture on Yemeni Jewelry, posted by Lynn. Hence, everything on it is original. I also did not see the upright pattern before. By the way, also the previously posted, heavy belt was featured in this lecture (I was surprised to see it there as I originally thought it to originate from Pakistan... Well, one never stops learning). By the way, I watched Mrs Ransom's lecture now already several times as I find a lot of my jewelry items there and it is great to have the opportunity to properly identify them. With kind regards. Peter
  • I found photos from the first exhibit on Facebook.  It looks quite wonderful!  My favorite from the photos were the children's and babies' coats:  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.596233363854870.107374183...
