wedding in Mali 2013

As we were talking some time back about these bicone golden pendants, I decided to show this photo. It is a Malian wedding, one of my husband's cousins got married early this year, the lady wearing the bicone gold pendant is my husbands aunt with the bride. Look at all their jewellery! I think this pendant was said to be from Senegal, but it is used very often in Mali too. The head decoration is not real Gold, but the necklace could be.

    @Thank you Chantal. The two ladies are dressed in two different styles, the bride is "modern", the aunt is traditional. In the south more and more brides want to be "modern", and use a White veil. I prefer the traditional Sonrai-Tuareg headdress........... (which is not seen on this photo).

    @Thanks for your comments and the feature. For weddings people in Mali dress up a lot, much more than e.g. here in Switzerland. They are THE events for them, and the events of giving a name to a newborn baby is often also celebrated in a big way.
