  I am very intrigued by sri lankan old jewelry, it really stands on top of most refined ethnic jewelry especially that it is made out in such techniques that one do rarely see only applied on gold old jewelry!!

  It makes me curious about the whole island's history!

  Truus and I have also bought this piece, along with the other necklace which would appear to come from the same area, whether that be Sri Lanka or just a small distance from there in India. I agree, ayis, that the standard of such silverwork is uncommonly high, standing on a top, and as you rightly observe mostly reserved for gold jewellery. We thought both pieces were beautiful, and hastened to acquire them!

  Yes these are Indian and from the South.

  I would argue that, like the other necklace, Sri Lanka is in most respects the most likely place of origin. In any case they are very Southeast Asian rather than Indian in character, allowing even for the great variety found within Indian jewellery. See my comments on the other necklace which this one has much in common with.

  So good that the Sri Lankan smiths retain their skills even today! I can`t think of another country that produces such fine silversmithing now.
