  Need some help in identifying these budhist beads. Got in Bamyan, Afghanistan, suposed very old. Some body knows more about them??? Thanks

  First, I cannot help. But it is such a beauty! Have to write it! Isn't Banyan that place with the wonderful Buddha statues that were destroyed by this ignorant Afghan islamists? Why couldn't they leave such a cultural highlight in piece! It did not do them any harm! I have lived some short years in Thailand and learnt a little about Buddhism. It is such a tolerant religion, does not do anyone harm! It reminds me of Timbuktu where now this terrible islamist sect Ansar Dine has started to destroy all these wonderful historical and magic mausoleums of saints. It hurts me so much to hear this, I have no words to express.
  Second: you have wonderful items. I am very impressed, beautiful!!! Also this one, it is gorgeous. Sorry that I cannot help..

  I bought a strand of these a few years ago from a wholesaler here in Milan and he told me that they were from Baluchistan.

  These are wonderful, They remind me of the Berber cornerless beads but appear to have some enamel in them. Are they for sale?

  Yes Eva, I am also very worried about how things are going in some of my most visited countries, first Afganistan, Pakistan and now the Sahel area. What is happening in norther Mali is pretty scarring. We cooperate with a group of rural women in Gao that we helped fund their workshop for traditional addorments and jewelry and have first hand news about what is going on. They are really suffering the lack of security, they can't go out of their houses and go to work to the workshop also because now is not allowed by the islamist, after the two years drought now this. In Africa they say that when two elephants battle who suffer the most is the grass

  I sold one before but with out enamel, always from Bamyan and budhist reference too, I've found budhist items in other places over the Indus river also, never in Baluchistan. But you now how much this things travel!!!

  @Thanks for your comments, Berveria. I have family in Gao, most of them have fled to relatives in Niamey and are living there for the time being. Also I have family in Timbuktu, one cousin was shot on the road, because he wanted to see if the grandmother (who lives alone in a house) needed anything. He was 17 years old and unarmed. Another cousin has left his house in Timbuktu, fled to Segou, and was told that the rebels live now in his house and use all his things left there. ANd then there are still people saying, that the Islamists are good people, and the Tuareg who had joined them, are also doing the right thing. I have always been on the Tuareg side for 30 years, but if they support violating women (by the Ansar Dine people or whoever, I have firsthand info from Timbuktu that women were violated), stealing houses, etc. then I must say, my respect for the Tuareg, at least these ones there, has ceased. But I must add, I know some Timbuktu Tuareg who are also shocked about this and are against it. Only - why did they not think about this BEFORE joining Ansar Dine????
