  • This pendant is similar to the design of a Tunisian pair of earrings recently posted by Harold. The necklace is very old with lots of wear patterns but the central pendant seems even older than the other parts. I am wondering if someone took an old earring and made it into a pendant. It is large-9 centimeters across.

  • Wonderful piece. Definitely Tunisian. As you say it looks like a reuse of a Tunisian pendant. The pendant figure in a nice new (old) book on Tunisian jewelry which I just received this AM! The dangles may or may not also have been added later on.........

  • Thanks Chantal. I was going to list this as a "mystery pendant" until I saw the earrings Harald posted.

  • Central pendant is a tunisian earring, usually this type does not support any chain or dangle and have obviously been reused and pierces and added coral and small pendants.

I am familiar with a great number of examples of reuse of tunisian old jewelry, which have been completely ignored by collectors as opposite to moroccan one and thus ended up in the large mass tourism bazars transformed into wearable jewelry and small boxes and ashtrays.....a pity but a very naive form of art

  • Thank you, Ayis. I was hoping you would comment on this.
