Pair of Tibetan akor

A fairly recent online find, which I'm thrilled with. These are a pair of women's earrings, called akor.According to Clarke's book on Himalayan jewellery, "Lhasa women wore this type of ornament that ends in the form of stylized lotus buds. They hung at either side of the face hiding both ears and facing forwards to show their inset stones. Due to their considerable weight, they were attached with small hooks to the headdress or hung over the head.This type is found as a decoration on the sides of the tombs of the 11th, 12th and 13th Dalai Lamas in the Potala Palace."
