Beautiful! I would love to see a photo of the complete necklace. I think this is rare to find with the full delicate necklace attached.
Is it possible this is Afghan? I have a similar necklace, pictures below, which is identified as Afghan in "Arab and Islamic Silver."
Hello Lynn, below you can find a photo of the complete necklace. The photo you have posted made me think! I am pretty sure that my necklace is Omani (purchased in Oman and listed in ref "Oman Adorned" p.142 as well as other references) nevertheless the similarities between both is very noticeable. I can see the Afghani touch in yours especially in the small triangle danglers on the chain. I think that this design might have originated from Afghanistan and traveled to Oman with the Afghanis like many other designs which influenced Oman jewelry especially from India and Pakistan/Baluchistan. It would be great if experts on Oman jewlery can give us there views. Br
Wow. Looking at your necklace, some elements are almost the same (pendant, hamsa dangles, closure, loop-in-loop) chains, but the spacers with the moons and stars, definitely look Omani. I wonder if they are both Baluchi or other people of Afghanistan, and one was made in Oman and one in Afghanistan. I would love to know the tribe / ethnic group if anyone knows. In any case, it is a lovely necklace, and I think rare to find intact. Usually just the pendants are published in books. Congratulations!!
