  • Is it glas or amber ?
It has the yemen touch but the big stone is unusual
  • Super looking stone. I bet amber, but I think it looks more berber to me.

  • You are right Patti, it looks amber
Then,if was originaly used and not added later, the yemen or berber possibilities are thinn

I can say carefuly ottoman influence and /or balticum/balkan
  • Tanja, where did you get it ?
  • Welcome Tanja, I'm glad to see that you joined this forum.

I agree with Patty and Ait - it looks like amber, but is difficult to place.

Baltic amber jewellery, I believe, usually looks different. Balkans- perhaps. My first though was Yemen, too, but I agree that the large stone would be unusual. Could it perhaps be the work of a Yemeni silver smith who migrated to Israel? Does the piece have a hallmark?

  • Nice nice, the amber as cabochon is recent in jewelry world in general.in the ethnic/tribal never seen it and definetly not faceted
It was some orders from/for westerns starting in beggining of the 20 th century
Personaly, i see ottoman, berber, yemen, balkan and baltic influences
It will not wonder me if we findout thats made or bought in tunisia too, even djerba
  • I bought it as "Berber from Sahel - bracelet" some years ago in Ebay :-).  I am not sure if it is amber or glass - it could be amber as a pin scratches, the colors are a bit different and with some fantasy i see darker embeddings in (two of the four) beads - but it is rather difficult to say as there is the silver bottom. I didn't want to do the water-test as I don't want to damage this old piece :-)

  • Hallmark - not sure. With the magnifier there is a small mark beside the closure which could be something like a 4 in the middle of two "I" - but it isn't very clearly, it could also be a result of scatches (it has some inside)
