There seems to be at least one coin with 6 sides whilst all the others have five. Have never seen coins cut in this way before. Is this how they looked originally? Or was it done specially for the necklace?

Yes Thelma. These are Yemeni coins. I have them also on some of my other Yemeni jewelry...
