Necklace - Palestine

This is an extremely rare and heavy necklace, because it features a double chain and real coins (quite often, even 80-100 years ago, coins for jewelry were manufactured by the silver smiths and were not real coins!).

Wonderful necklace! This appears to be very old Peter. The dates I can make out on the coins are from 1807 and similar, and look at how worn the filigree beads are. I bet this is from the first half of the 19th century. Congratulations!!

Dear Rabah; Many thanks for your message. This is very nice indeed. Yours is worn, fastened to the head dress, hence, right under the chin. It is the same style as the 7-souls necklace. These Palestinian necklaces are extremely rare and valuable - they go into the thousands nowadays! With kind regards. Peter

Palestinian Iznaq necklace ( I have been looking for one) , they come in different sizes and are attached to headdresses. Worn by ladies in Bethlehem. Recently I have been in touch with Nada (Anteeka) who says these are very rare to find and very expensive when sold.

Dear Patricia; Many thanks for your message. All Palestinian jewelry is becoming extremely expensive. This is mainly because there were never that many made of any kind, which means that the entire remaining "stock" is Pretty much with collectors or dealers and nobody sells unless really necessary. I have just yesterday been offered a huge Palestinian necklace. I have never seen such a piece before (only small version). However, as pretty much everywhere in the Levant, business is down because of the last Gaza war and the threat of ISIS. This is the only reason, why this particular necklace has been offered to me now. I am still contemplating - the cost is very high but then again, I will never be offered such a necklace again....
