Moroccan amber necklace (posted for Sarah)

From Truus Daalder, *Ethnic Jewellery and Adornment*, p. 406: "Wedding necklace of huge chunks of amber, two silver beads and dark pink silk tassels. South-east Morocco, Ouarzazate: Berber people; [assembled] mid 20th c (many beads much older). H (without tassels) 34 cm; largest bead 7 x 3.3 cm. Amber, silver, worn leather spacers, silk.

  • Thank you very much for your nice and well-chosen words, Ann! I (Joost) say this also on behalf of Truus, of course, who has seen your comment as well. We collect jointly, but Truus has the honour of having written the book, and I am really only just "a helper on-line". For one thing Truus has been doing other academic work of late. For another, I am much happier than she is to operate on websites - in the case of jewellery, chiefly this one, and "Ethnic Jewellery and Adornment" on Facebook. That was named after the book, but in practice we publish far more pieces there that do not come from it than pieces that do.
