  • Wow! What a lot! I should tell my husband to bring me some......but I have seen brighter colours than on this photo (?).  Is this what the Malian market sells now? I just wonder...I think the few pieces I have are from Mali too (only very few). Some have this colour, and some are brighter.

  • I`m wondering if I have the correct notion of Mali amber now. I would expect Mali amber beads to be mostly fairly opaque, a lighter colour and with flat sides, sharp edges and a large perforation. I see some here I think.

I`ll take a few strands of the ones shown though, whatever they be!!

  • I thought these were Moroccan amber.

  • My understanding is that many of what is marketed as Malian amber could come from further east (Chad, sudan...!), But this is a personal guess!!

  • Hi Alaa, This is very possible, in Morocco it is known as Malian Amber because MAlian traders bring it to sell.

  • this style of bead is changing hands at $25 - 30 per gram at wholesale  !!

  • That`s a high price but still not as high as prices online sometimes. They can be double that and more. However it is a rarity there so it`s a seller`s market. And the price would be retail of course.

  • yes to achieve this price you need toinvest in 10 + kilos!

  • This type of amber can also be found on eBay at better prices that in Morocco.  We sold some in late November at $10 per gram.  It was a larger strand, but 100% genuine because we pull all of the fake beads out.  Abdu purchased kilos of this stuff back in the days when it was extremely affordable.  He even purchased some in Mali for next to nothing.  It's amazing how quickly the market changes!
