Yes, I`m sure it`s baltic, as roman amber is.
The perforations are worn, not hugely but definitely not sharp edged.
The largest bead measures 3.75cms. I`m disinclined to remove it right nowfrom the temporary stringing the seller used - I`d be sure to loose bits! - so don`t know its` weight.
The whole necklace flouresces a strong lilac/violet under black light.
Even some of the chips look old. Just don`t know exactly how old any of it is.
Looks like rough unpolished Baltic amber, very nice!!

I think the larger beads may have been more polished at one time but that age has had its` way with it.
One can see that the underlayer with its` hand facetting is very close to the one in my above photo.
Anyone interested in the market for ethnic amber might like to check out eBay no. 261384961998. Not for nothing has the seller titled it islamic and chinese. No prizes as to where he/she thinks it might sell to.
Then there`s eBay no. 141153729949..........hmmmm!
OMG what prices!! love his necklace number 261392773576 but could never afford it.
@ Marie-Ange. Crazy, eh? That`s what we "little" buyers are up against! As for the other one, I just don`t believe the description. But it`s only one of a number of similar ones that are around.
But so gorgeous - the one you mention. And it looks spot on to me.
Frankie, are you saying that these items on Ebay are somewhat suspect? There is one entry with the bakelite and the silver beads by the same seller and he doesnt have any idea where the beads come from. Seems rather strange to me
Hi Cordelia. The first one I mention I think is fine. I just included it to show the way that ethnic amber prices are going. (Actually it`s one I would definitely take to bed with me if I ever got the chance - I should be so lucky!!!).
The second one is more than suspect I think. But it`s always hard to know if a seller is deliberately "putting one over" or if they are advertising in all innocence.
Yes I agree with Frankie, the first seems to be real amber but the second are newly made "repaired" beads and no amber!
