The most interesting fact about this is that it is worn only in one city in the whole country!!!

These ornaments are great and very original. I had never seen any like those before And that about the piece of chalk very interesting. Actually, I have a Libyan headornament that looks like a massive ring. It is missing the bezel but now I think that it a piece of chalk may have well been used instead as otherwise the piece of glass would have to be real big.

The ring you bought, comes from the same city, the bezel contains chalk and is covered with red velvet fabric
