Thanks for posting this Howah! It is amazing how much this resembles a Tunisian "sharka kabira", probably the Ottoman influence. I love how the "khamseh" has become a tulip form in this necklace. I love it! Here is another photo of the Tunisian version for comparison...

this is an amazing piece! I was really interested in Edith's comment about the khamsa morphing into a tulip...fascinating! Also, how on earth was the choker made? Is it four lines of links joined and flattened?

Lovely shapes, Howah. Tulips and moons ... but what are those wild shapes in the third row. Maybe those are symbolic too.
Thelma, I do not know what those "wild shapes" are, but here is a guess...they have 5 points just like a khamseh, and they are vaguely floral (carnation motif????). Does anyone else see the similarity between the shapes on this necklace and the floral motifs found in Ottoman textiles? Here is an example from the textile museum here in Washington, DC...
Very likely that is what they are . carnations or tulips , same shapes as Ottoman textiles as this would be from that region and or any where that this style was being used during same time.
