Traditional ‘gerdanlık’ (tight-fitting necklace) from NW Anatolia. Ca. late 19th century. Silver alloy, turquoises, coral, glass beads (+ some plastic ones at both ends), a late-Ottoman silver coin (1907). Width: 33 cm. Purchased in Bursa. These necklaces-with-beads are the poor-people-version of the much richer necklaces (with only silver, originating from wealthier households) that are on exhibit in museums. (Inv.n° müç026 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).

  • Very nice indeed. The turquoise and coral beads are giving such a nice contrast to the silver. Peter
