Late-Ottoman belt with buckle. Kütahya / Turkey. Quai Branly Museum.

'Tokalı kemer' (Belt with buckle). For women, from Kütahya (Turkey). Silver buckle, velvet belt embroidered with silver thread. (© Quai Branly Museum, Paris). Late-Ottoman, ca. 1900. This kind of buckle is common to the whole of northwestern Anatolia. Note: the museum has misplaced the buckles. They should swap places and be turned around, in order to place the hook of one buckle into the eyelet of the other (which is not possible in the setting on the picture).

    Dear Jean-Marie; A nice belt indeed. I am a bit surprised that a Quai Branly Museum is placing the buckle the wrong way. This museum is buying from some of the same resources as I ... With kind regards. Peter
