"Kuchi" Necklace in Silver

This is a "Kuchi" or Pashtun necklace in high grade silver. It comprises of three focal boxes with five strands of tiny silver beads strung between them. Beneath the boxes hang ornate chain work, comprising a flat link chain and a longer loop-in-loop chain. Attached to the lower chain are many silver sticks with tiny glass beads, and large glass jewels set into filigreed and stamped settings. The middle stone has the most ornate work with both filigree and granulation. I have always wanted one of these necklaces in silver rather than metal and I was delighted to be able to collect this.Dimensions:24 cm long9 cm wide183 grams

  • This is true eye candy, Lynn. Lovely granulation on the pendants - must be a joy to wear. I'm still looking for my silver "Kuchi" choker...

  • Very  cheerful choker Lynn,  pretty pendants, beautiful middle and ending pieces. How adventurous the added chain on the bottom to fill up the gap between the main chain and the dangles. Love the color combination. Like tulip colors. Gr. Ingrid.

  • You are lucky, Lynn. This is so much more attractive than the metal ones. It would be really interesting to know which clan of the Pashtun nomads it originally belong to and to what extent pieces of jewellery differed according to clan. I don't know if it is possible to attribute identity in all cases .... our members in Peshawar might know ... but it would be very interesting to get a clearer picture.
