  • mango shape!

Could it have been used as a betel nut/lime container? rather that the usual perfume stuff?

  • Certainly it could have been used as a lime container. I am only familiar with the silver ones but it`s certainly a possibility.

  • I thought lime containers were bigger? Are they usually this small?

  • The lime paste containers usually are around this size. They frequently come attached by a chain to their accompanying betel nut box which is much larger.

There`s a nice lime paste container @ eBay no. 231127692498.

  • I'd love to see a photo of this when open. Wondering if this could have been used for kumkum - the vermilion powder applied on the forehead.

  • On your instigation, Preethi, I`ve just been peering into its` murky depths. But it`s it`s so dark inside I can`t make out anything even with a torch. But your suggestion is certainly a possibility.

Aggravatingly I can`t get to see what`s inside that makes it rattle as the neck extends down into it so I can`t manouevre whatever it is over the opening. I suspect it`s part of its` missing dipper/applicator though.
