  • Betty I am placing this brooch to show that brooches became part of etnic wear in late 1950-60  They were popular gifts to a bride from families of friends.  Because they also held the Shamma(shawls) very well in place.   I am not sure if it was  a start off from the Italian Jewelers (in Asmara).  Gr. Ingrid.

So I worked hard to make you happy done my good deed for the week.

  • Dear Ingrid; This brooch is so delicate and impressive. When I saw it, I remembered that I have purchased a silver brooch very similar to this, together with some other brooches, during my visit in Ghondar back in 1982. When I am back at my home, I will dig them out. They need polishing but are beautiful indeed. With kind regards. Peter

  • Thank you Peter for your appreciation.  What makes this work outstanding (the same with the silver pieces is that the solid granulate are done it suchs a  way that they look like facet diamonds. Gr. Ingrid.

  • This is gorgeous Ingrid. I thank you so much for posting all these pics. I really appreciate it and will comment some more tomorrow. For today, I must be off to bed...

  • Love it! and what a wonderful Name (star of Mogadisho).
