Betty,It was the same lady (actually my mother-in-law) told me how she wore them as a young woman. She used to love my collecting and told me her experiences sometimes in companie of her sisters who put in their bits and on rare occasions the admiration of the husbands. Nice memories.
Gr. Ingrid.
that Looks splendid! a very beautiful combination! love it.
Can you imagine Eva, the ladies walking around with their swinging lovely national dresses and underneath the legs decorated with these charming jewelry.
must have been such special sight! Sometimes I see pictures of modern tigray ladies with their traditional costumes and jewellery "the modern way", which is lovely too. You were lucky to get all this inside Information from your motherin-law and Family - something similar happened to me with Mali only I had not been living there for 40 years..........!
I remember seeing ladies in Northern Ethiopia still wearing them in the early 1990s. I wouldn't remember I must confess if I didn't happen to take one or two photographs in which they can clearly be seen :-)
Quite possible Betty. As Eritrea and Tigrai are so intermixed and of course travelling and visiting people do take habits along.
