  thank you chantal. it looks like, you are right.in papua they use another wood not so dark. this one is sahara akzia,some people sell at for ebony wood. it fits good in jewelry too. i have some , they are verry beautiful

  Beautiful and thanks for the info. I have bought several wooden Tuareg - Mauritanian jewellery in TImbuktu and surroundings, which was sold to me as "ebony", I am sure it is not ebony, probably the acacia you mention.

  eva . Touareg jewelry in the passt where not with wood, plain silver then came to ,agate,canrnelien. some quarz , shells and some trade beads

  in mauritania, mali niger stated first with wood and later on came to algeria( only a little wood) because thoes countrys they have ebony but not where the touareg use to live. it is recently that this tade started with ebony and got used in jewelry. another population living in ebony growing area ( south sahel ) they were using it als beads or just commun use

  eva. the jewelry you use to buy. it is ebony. in Kidal, there is one of the best smith making jewelry with ebony. is you see at this jewelry, it is not 100 % touareg i mean the shape and the form. it is mix between european and touareg, but verry nice peices
