  • This is called a "guza" literally a "nut". They were first made from big accprn fruit outer shell with silver capping. Some old and rate ones were made with gold amd enameled.

    The original use was that of a tobacco container and not khol as the latter needs a stand or a flat bottom to be displayed with other make up tools.

    There seems to be a revival of these to be used as khol containers however. Not a widespread trend however amd might jave started with the excentric taste of one woman.

    I believe the use of such intruments was discovered by moroccan quite early when they were looting vessels coming from the new world. At that time europeand were using "corozo" nuts to transport tobacco and gun powder for personal use....matter of fact the connection between tobacco its discovery in the new world and the nut container looted by moroccan pirates makes sense to track down the original.purpose of such moroccan pieces.
