  Thank you Linda!  I loved your photo so much on pinterest; as a result, I had to have these pendants when I saw them.  Do you know anything about the people who wore them and how they were used?

  I have since read a book, "Hungarian Folk Jewelry" which IDs these pendants as the work of Jozsef Fellner, a silversmith from Baja Hungary in the 1910s.  These were worn with Hungarian folk costumes.

  good detective work, it's a really great piece.  I love folk jewelry from these regions.  When I was in college I purchased a book called Primitive and Folk Jewelry by Gerlach  Dover press. It has a lot of issues with miss attribution however  it is worth owning  in that it shows all these collections from museums that are of early acquisition and so it really opened my eyes up at an early age to many types of ornaments. i really learned  from it as well also know enough now to know when things were mislabeled.  It is particularly strong in European folk pieces .

  Splendid, Lynn. This one is in remarkably good condition and must be great to wear. We don't often get to see folk jewellery from Hungary and I love the contrasts in the piece and the way the coins have been decorated.

  Linda, I bought the book you recommended and it is wonderful with many jewels I have not seen photographed before.  Do I understand correctly that all of the photographic plates are from 1906, hence reliably dating the piece to 19th century or earlier?  Thank you so much for the recommendation.

   I'm not sure when the photos were taken as I had not looked .. good question . The museums are vast and all over the world but i can tell from the photos that many are ancient to 17th and 18th c some later most are very early. There is jewelry from the Vikings and other ancient cultures as well as Byzantine pieces. If that book dates to that time then yes all would be before that date.
