  • Everything is handmade and that happened years ago, with enough dirt, i.e. goo, having built up where it should be, i.e. at places where the piece would not be touched much: see the good near the hinge, slightly lower down, let and right of the protruding piece of silver. All this is what happens if such pieces are left alone and not deliberately cleaned or polished up, and the distribution of these "goo" areas is entirely natural. Striking is also that we can here see the bottom of the large piece on the top of the piece. That bottom, the underside of the very glossy and frequently polished big top  piece, looks. again, as it does on most old pieces. My main point is that THE HIGH SHEEN ON THE VERY TOP OF THE PIECE, ON THAT LARGE AREA, CAN BE *EXPECTED* TO BE QUITE DIFFERENT FROM THE SURFACE ELSEWHERE: *THAT* IS NOT A SIGN OF ANYTHING WRONG - SAMENESS OF SURFACE ALLROUND WOULD BE!!
