  • Not only are there indeed some differences, but Ayis is simply wrong to believe that the two hamsas on old pieces are never symmetrical. I looked at several pieces in good books yesterday, and in some cases two opposing hamsas were ENTIRELY symmetrical, and that was on good old pieces. It is also true that on other pieces the hamsas looked "askew", but often this was a matter of the thumbs being on different sides, rather than any deliberate policy of avoiding symmetry.
