Another mystery find from the online "flea market". I suspect it might be part of a German or Austrian folk costume - maybe to fix a hat or bonnet to the hair, or simply as a decoration. It's gilded and measures about 11.5cm (8.5 inches) in total length. The filigree bead is about 2.4x2.1cm.
Nice, somehow I think I have seen it when I was looking for Ethiopian Pins, there exist many nice ones from other countries (for hats, for ties (Kravatte), etc. It has even an Ethiopian touch! It Looks very delicate, fine work!
A lovely pin. It does indeed gives an impression as an Ethiopian hairpin, but the top squared off top is ver un Ethiopian, the connection band with its twisted cord also not Ethiopian style, so I would place it more to your part of the world. Lovely piece, really.
Gr. Ingrid,
Thank you ladies! Unfortunately not Ethiopian, but very wearable as a hairpin (though I am fairly sure that it was meant to be a hatpin - the pin itself is very sharp and relatively thin).
