@Thank you Frankie. I will surely go back to Mali sometime, but whether it is possible to go to Timbuktu, I do not know now. As I mentioned somewhere, even my husband who is a "local", does not go there at the Moment, because it still is not really safe. Unfortunately the desert (in this case around Timbuktu) has been a place where criminals, terrorists, and other individuals with bad intentions have been hiding. The Problem was in the past years how to get there safely. Now it is less how to get there safely, but being there These criminal Groups like to take hostages......... in order to fill their Money bags, the risk for Westerners is too big. I was shocked to hear (approx. one year ago or more ?) that they came to the Hotel Amanar (a small nice very personal Hotel at an outskirt quarter (Abaradjou), where I used to stay on my first visit, in order to take Western hostages. The Hotel is run by an Arab Family, one of the owners there is a severely handicapped man, who was so Kind to me, that it made me ashamed of my Feelings of shock when I had seen him the first time. I have no idea what has happened to this Family and if the Hotel is still running. It was such a pieceful, wonderful place! I used to sit outside there when I really needed a cold Cola, and just from there the terrorists kidnapped the Europeans. I can never Forget this!

Thank you so much for taking us on a virtual trip to Mali. I really hope you will soon get a chance to travel there again and bring back more fascinating stories. Hopefully, Timbuktu will also be safe again though that those who fled will be able to return. Again, thanks for sharing your insights!
