  • I acquired this bracelet in the very early 1990s in Addis Ababa. It's some metal alloy and rather large in size with 2.7 inch (7cm) in diameter - a bit to big for me to wear, but I never found something similar. Maybe our Ethiopia experts can provide more information?

  • Quite a nice bracelet! I have unfortunately no idea, to which ethnical Group this could belong to. I am sure someone will be able to tell.........

  • I think this is a unique one. not a typical one. A try out . The decoration designs are  from Harrar, like the open edge, are like the rings on which bells are hanging  on the cressent (banana)  or scroll box with its diamant shapes and the little flower patterns.  It really looks like a free designs but having used the local decorations.

  • Thank you, Eva and Ingrid! Unfortunately I cannot remember where I bought it. Somewhere near Piazza in a shop, I think, but I maybe wrong.

  • Most tourist shop at that time were on the Churchill Rd (which leads to the Piazza). Funny to hear this mentioned. Brings me home. Thank you Betty.

  • I vaguely recall that it may not have been a typical souvenir shop, but probably a place where one could book tours to touristy locations. But again, I am not sure. It's such a long time ago... and when I revisited Addis just a few years ago, it barely recognised the locations I had visited in the early 1990s...
