Very nice and a new one for me. How long are these Betty? Would one slip it on? Is there a knot for tightening/loosening?
Betty shall I answer Preethi's question? They are made personally to fit. They than are rolled tightly over the feet and there to stay. It lays over the feet onto the heels. the strings of cotton are knotted and waxed in. Sometimes there is so much butter and dirt cooked in that is is very hard to get the beads off when you would like to re-use them.
Thanks everyone for your kind comments, and thank you for answering Preethi's question, Ingrid! I didn't know about waxing the cotton. But the knots are indeed so tight that you cannot open them easily. I can slip these over my feet as they are quite large. One of the first pictures I posted actually shows woman wearing them in combination with an anklet made of fertility beads:

That is right Betty, and to top it also with a third anklet of bohemian glass beads. Very charming. That is a fashion from Eritrea. Your set is of a great quality. Can do a lot with them. Gr. Ingrid.
