  • This Solomonic or Shoa cross is the one which has to be watched.  These are the ones I have seen produced in highly skilled work, 5 years ago but  completely none silver.  I do see them on the internet for sale. They do not claim it as an old cross jus Ethiopian cross. So if one doesn.t mind for the years nor the silver not bad.  This one is an antique/old one. Again all features are soft. With this one the hinge is worn through so needs repair.

  • Just a quick thought. What are actual Shoa crosses? I thought this one was called Gurage. What is the difference? (sorry, I am just trying to learn...........)

  • HI Eva, the basic shape of this cross is Shoa design, can be also both the bars same length,Solomonic cross.  But when the basic cross is so  lovely decorated it had become popular with the Guarage people and therefore it is also referred to as Guarage cross.  This cross is actually a pectoral cross, which means that it is worn on a long chain or string.  Small crosses are neckcrosses, like the one you bought of me,those are worn on a short string close to the neck.

    Confusing?

  • Hi Ingrid, thanks a lot for the explanations. I understand more or less.............!.
