Burmese Minority Cuff, Side

A massive silver cuff from one of the minority peoples of Burma, Shan or Kachin. Two thick rings of silver are joined by an hourglass shape made up of fused coiled wire on the inside and out. Over this, there is applied chain work, granulation, and filigreed floral shapes. So smooth and gently curving that it is comfortable to wear, despite it's massive size. I think this is authentic and old but I welcome opinions otherwise!Dimensions:376 grams10 cm long8.5 cm at widest

    Dear Lynn; very beautiful indeed. Congratulations. When I went to Burma over 30 years ago, I could not see anything like that - I believe that they were hiding these things from me!!! In contrary, when I went 28 years ago to Vietnam, they had a lot of antiques, which they tried to sell. Well, at that time, the country was still ruled by the Soviet Union and the export of antiques was strictly controlled, resp. prohibited, together with the foreign currency, unless purchased from the government. I have some fantastic pieces, even the government underestimated in the price such as a 350 enamel vase with gold lion head handles, etc.. Well, that did not prevent me from exchanging some of my clothes, Whiskey and cigarettes (I do not drink much and certainly do not smoke but at that time, I have always taken such things as bargaining power with me) for antiques.
