Belt

This belt looks gorgeous and has a very thick gilding. I did not yet clean it but once cleaned, it will look out if this world. Could this belt be from North Africa? I have a similar belt from Morocco. It is signed on the buckle. I would appreciate your input.

  • Could you provide further images and a close up of the hallmark?

i have an idea but i am waiting to see further details

    thanx

  • 2506025812?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Dear Alaa; Please find above an image of the hallmarks. Looking forward to hearing from you. With kind regards. Peter

  • The closing system is known on morocco vintage belts!

The hallmarks are written with north african arabic numerals (not middle eastern one) and the term "faddah" which means either silver or silver plated , i know it is confusing but it is a matter of local arabic dialect!

The discret etching is very similar to that one can find on dubai/gulf states made export jewelry to the African horn and eastern africa at large but the numerals would not fit.

The rose however is a suggestion towards the old north african ottoman era tradition of applying a rose or a hand with a rose on belts.

    Very mysterious indeed!

The belt seems to be mechanically processed?

    Where did you buy it

  • Dear Peter, Very robust. It almost looks like all scroll holders. Amazing. Gr. Ingrid.

  • Dear Ingrid and Alaa; Many thanks for your comments. I agree, it is a very unusual belt and this is why I bought it - I love unusual pieces. The shape of the belt looks very robust but the belt is rather light. Nevertheless, I guess that it was very difficult to produce. I bought it on ebay. With kind regards. Peter
