  • Now this is sublime....I know a lot of people who wold get very excited about such a bead!
  • It's a wonderful bead!  I have seen related specimens from ancient China, in the Liese Collection.  They are sometimes misidentified as "jade"—since many desirable hard-stone beads from China are so-identified.  It's good to see a correct designation.  Jamey
  • Yes, this agate bead is beautiful.  I have seen only one other in rough condition.  Thanks for your comments, Jamey and Sarah.
  • Hi Joe,

I took the liberty of posting a link to this bead on a bead specialists network too.

  • 2505991665?profile=originalHere's a scan of one of the Han pieces from the Liese Collection, that I documented a few years ago.  The beads are agate and turquoise (or something turquoise-like).  Jamey
  • Hi Jamey, do you know what part of China these beads are from?  The matched hourglass forms at the top seem Dian, from Kunming area, but the other forms are unfamiliar to me.

  • Hello Joe.  I only know that this and two other groups were from high-status Han burials.  I don't have access to the documentation.  I believe these pieces were not included with those donated to The Bead Museum.  Frankly, I don't know what their disposition may be.  Jamey
  • Hi Jamey,

Wow, I would love to see them if they are not donated, and could be located.  Are you certain that they are authentic?  Do you remember who they came from?  Certainly the kind of thing that I get excited about!

    Best, Joe

  • What a beauty!!!
