  I am in a quandary about this piece. It is a treasure house of rare pieces. It is far too heavy to wear and could be quite difficult to sell as is. Yet the idea removing it from its native habitat on this old piece of cloth might not be the right thing. What are your thoughts?

  Yes that´s a difficult one with some pieces. This necklace- headband is a collector´s piece with a lot of value, culturally and historically. The jewish beads, red coral, the thalers are fabulous.  The top with the amber looks like something added to the original red coral and silver design. If I were you, I first try to sell as it is. xx

  Thank you, Veronica, for your advice.  All that Bawsani and coral in one place, apart from the cultural value really makes it hard to think of a price for it ;)  I am always thinking, "When my collection is gone, I will be like the Yemenis in the late 1900s!  Just some orphan pieces left behind!  That is why I will want to know how to put the loose beads and amulets into service at that time.

  I'd be inclined to keep it as is, when all is said and done. It's an attractive enough combination, and as soon as you start interfering you are likely to get a result you don't want. For example, I am not over keen on he yellow beads at the top, but in Yemen they are regularly used this way, and the old beads going with them are great. I see solid value and appeal here. In SELLING it, you'd have to think of a collector, but there are a number of us around, and not everyone buys only pieces that can be worn.

  Please do not take this apart. It appears complete and is very beautiful. It doesn't seem to have damage . If it were ugly or damaged that would be another story.
