  • Great photo and great lighting. They look heavy and very substantial. Would there have been enamel in the holes of the clasp? or not?

  • Thank you very much, Chantal. Actually they are not very big but rather a child's size. I am afraid that I have messed with the scale as I took the picture from quite a close range. I do not think that they were never enamelled as that is not a common feature on Yemeni pieces. The little holes in the clasps though may have had some little pieces of coral, agate or turquoise set at some point.

  • Most of the really old Yemeni bracelets that I possess are very, very small, they fit me because my wrists are very small, but they do not fit a normal size wrist. I think there was a discussion about this on another thread dealing with some other small bracelets, people were just tinier then and also the ladies were married at a very early age.

  • Frankie you are absolutely right about those sizes. Very small but they do fit woman, like my wife and daughter for instance, but people seem not to believe so.

  • Talking about the size of the bracelets. They are child size, because they do get them as an engagement

gift and often brides may have been as young as 9 years old.  and were getting married a couple of years later like 12.
