Yemeni Amulet from the Hadramaut

This is a heavy silver wedding necklace from the Hadramaut, probably from Wadi Daw'an. The cucumber-shaped amulet has finely engraved floral decoration, with granulated pyramid finials on either side and forming the bails. Beneath it hangs profuse bells, none missing or replaced. Hands of Fatimah hang at the front of each row of bells. The amulet is set on a chain that uses the same construction techniques as the southern Yemeni belts and is in fact long enough to be a belt at 39" long. The amulet is very large and the whole thing weighs 540 grams.
