  • Ait I do have a belt  similar, except that the  bails on the end pieces are more solid looking and one is open and hooks into the closed one.   Gr. Ingrid.

  • PS these  chains were also attached to large scroll boxes or the half cresents.

  • PPS. Another one  from India has a closure with a screw( very nice) will try to place some pictures for you.

    Gr. Ingrid.

  • ingrid, thank you for the infos, it is nice to have you :-)

a foto wil be very nice, wanted to restaure the piece. for me it is yemeni, do you mean could be indien or semilar to soem indien ones  ??

  • Dear Ait, I believe that this belt is from Socotra Island or Hadramaut. It would only have a larger "S" shape hook to close. I will post one of my belts from Socotra Island, where one can find by the way similar designed belts as in Sumatra (Indonesia). With kind regards. Peter

  • Interesting discussion. A picture of a closure as described by Peter can also be found in Marjorie Ransom's book on p.160.

I wonder how long this belt is, or whether it might have been part of a necklace (as mentioned by Ingrid) rather than a belt (Ransom p. 94).

  • dear Peter, thank you for your imput, it sounds great, ingrid just posted a S hook that could fit to your description

Betty thank you,the belt is 80 cm long

  • Dear Ait, I have also posted a Yemeni belt with such a S-hook. With kind regards. Peter
