'Alınlık' (forehead ornament) for women, from western Anatolia. Late-Ottoman, c. 1850-1900. Copper, with traces of silver plating. Two blue glass paste stones and one red stone. Decor of the three plates in Turkish (neo-)Barock style; the three small hooks on their reverse made it possible to use it also as a breast ornament. 62 cm wide. (Inv.n° müç043 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).

  • This is a very delicate and pretty forehead ornament, Jean Marie. It's interesting how this design with the three platelets can be found in so many different cultures, for instance, in Turkoman forehead ornaments.
