Turkman isirgalik

Beautiful rare isirgalik Turkman set, signed and dated on rear in Arabic 1224 which makes it, in 2011, 174 years old but this is questioned by experts, and the piece may be younger. Signed by Aga Jan on rear of both pendants. Solid silver, gold wash, original carnelian cabuchons. Used to be worn over head, nowadays worn over shoulders. See other photos for details.

  • It's a very nice piece, but I think the dating on the back is almost certainly too early: 174 years old for this piece is, frankly, very unlikely. It does have age, unquestionably, but a piece from 1837 (AD) would look different.
  • I add, though, that I do like the set, and think it is very collectible. I may be wrong about the age, for that matter - but I rather doubt it.
  • Nice old piece! Good silver. I love it..I agree with Joost Daalder about the date. The oldest dated piece I know is dated 1264 (1847 AD) Linden Museum collection Stuttgart.(Kalter). Most of the items coming on the market are not more than two or three generations old. Dated pieces are rare and mostly from the first quarter of the Twentieth Century. I have a dated Tekke piece myself. I will make a picture of it. The way of setting of the stones, with the "cord-lining" is more seen on Twentieth Century pieces.
